There should have been a second penalty for Germany in the second half time. It was probably way more of a foul than the one Germany received a penalty for in the first half time. Absolutely incredible not to give that second penalty. The Dutch had a great team and also would have deserved to win the title as they had beaten both Brazil and Argentina during the second group stage. And GDR of course. West Germany had the easier group in the second group stage, even though Yugoslavia, Sweden and especially Poland had very good teams back then too. Just imagine a second group stage with West Germany, Netherlands, Brazil and Argentina in one group.

Exakt. Die Sowjetunion wurde ja auch rausgeschmissen, weil sie sich in der Quali nach dem Putsch geweigert haben gegen Chile anzutreten. Das Spiel wurde sogar ohne die UdSSR angepfiffen (!) und nach dem 1:0 für Chile abgebrochen, weil kein Sowjetspieler da war, um den Anstoß durchzuführen.

Back in a time when to me, football was a lot better. Less politics. West Germany and East Germany are in the same group. FIFA does not make sure that they can not be in the same group. They end up there, they play each other. The way it should be.

Uli had missed a penalty in earlier game. I read that Breitner did not even ask, or discuss. walked up and took the penalty in the final. I remember watching this World Cup game-for-game as a 13 year old. I was inspired by all the great players on display - not only from the two finalists, but also the under-rated and brilliant Polish team.of this era, who had beaten England and Wales to head their qualifying group en route to the Finals. They also had some great players - Lato, Deyna, Kasperczak, Gorgon and, of course, the goalkeeper Tomashevski 'a clown' as Brian Clough notoriously described him. The Poles were actually unlucky to lose to West Germany in their deciding second round group match which would have meant that they would have faced Holland in the final in Munich. Who knows what the final score might have been ?

Watching football without utterly biased Engl. commentary is even more pleasurable. Martin Tyler especially awful. Pathetic barely suppressed bias when Germany play. West Germany was a term given by foreigners, the official name of this state was Federal Republic of Germany. Never West Germany. The other state was officially called German Democratic Republic, never something like east germany.

Italy were far from lousy and when Rossi hit his stride he became a goal machine. Overall, the Italians were almost as good, but had a player who could score goals, while Brazil could not.

Funny how British highlights of the 1974 final don't show Mueller's "offside" goal which should have made it 3-1.
There should have been a second penalty for Germany in the second half time. It was probably way more of a foul than the one Germany received a penalty for in the first half time. Absolutely incredible not to give that second penalty. The Dutch had a great team and also would have deserved to win the title as they had beaten both Brazil and Argentina during the second group stage. And GDR of course. West Germany had the easier group in the second group stage, even though Yugoslavia, Sweden and especially Poland had very good teams back then too. Just imagine a second group stage with West Germany, Netherlands, Brazil and Argentina in one group.

Uli had missed a penalty in earlier game. I read that Breitner did not even ask, or discuss. walked up and took the penalty in the final. Germany's greatest generation of players in the golden era of football. It's just too bad that the superb team of Cruyff, and Neeskens had to lose. The onslaught of NL in 2nd half was relentless.

No, that's not true, because Poland was a very good team in 1974. Gadocha and Lato were in impressive form. The South American teams were very disappointing and very weak. Sweden and Poland were much better, so the West German team had the more difficult group. The Dutch failed because of their arrogance and vanity. I remember watching this World Cup game-for-game as a 13 year old. I was inspired by all the great players on display - not only from the two finalists, but also the under-rated and brilliant Polish team.of this era, who had beaten England and Wales to head their qualifying group en route to the Finals. They also had some great players - Lato, Deyna, Kasperczak, Gorgon and, of course, the goalkeeper Tomashevski 'a clown' as Brian Clough notoriously described him. The Poles were actually unlucky to lose to West Germany in their deciding second round group match which would have meant that they would have faced Holland in the final in Munich. Who knows what the final score might have been ?

Watching football without utterly biased Engl. commentary is even more pleasurable. Martin Tyler especially awful. Pathetic barely suppressed bias when Germany play. Relished feeling his dismay every time Germany beat England or the Dutch and he had to swallow it in squirming commentary. Tough for people stuck in WWII still living 80 years back.

West Germany was a term given by foreigners, the official name of this state was Federal Republic of Germany. Never West Germany. The other state was officially called German Democratic Republic, never something like east germany.

Italy were far from lousy and when Rossi hit his stride he became a goal machine. Overall, the Italians were almost as good, but had a player who could score goals, while Brazil could not.
